It was a rough year for Abrines, as he struggled to be the reliable shooter that the Thunder hoped he would be. After shooting 40% from three in his rookie year and 39% the following year, Abrines only shot 32% this season, and eventually was waived, citing personal reasons.
Nobody has explained exactly what went wrong off the court, but it could be partially due to Abrines not having the role he might have envisioned in Oklahoma City. Coach Billy Donovan didn't seem to fully trust Abrines, especially on the defensive end of the court, and his shooting ability was not elite enough to make up for his shortcomings on that end.
There's a chance Abrines's time in the NBA is done. Should he choose to return, I'll be interested to see if he can get anything above the minimum.
Potential Teams: Pacers, Rockets, Heat, Pistons, Magic
Predicted Contract: Signs overseas
If he returns to NBA: 2-year, $7 million (2nd year non-guaranteed) with the Pacers
*Abrines signed overseas and returned to Spain
