I was very surprised to hear that Valanciunas is planning to decline his $17.6 million player option for next season. In my opinion, that must mean that Jonas and his agent are aware of a contract offer starting at that number, or maybe slightly less but with some long-term guaranteed money.
With not many teams needing centers, I expect that the Grizzlies have this offer ready, and view Valanciunas as their starting center for the next couple years. While I would personally prefer to play Jaren Jackson Jr. at center, many believe he is best at the four.
Potential Teams: Grizzlies, Knicks, Mavericks, Clippers, Lakers
Predicted Contract: 3-year, $45 million with the Grizzlies
*Actual Contract: 3-year, $45 million with the Grizzlies.

When Valanciunas opted out of his $17.6 million salary for next season, it was clear he was going to get a long-term deal somewhere near that salary, and this contract proved that.
