2022 Free Agents - De'Andre Jordan

Summary
Jordan's game has slowly been on the decline in the past five or six years, culminating in a low point during which he ended up completely falling out of the Nets' rotation in the 2021 playoffs. Jordan was traded in a salary dump to the Pistons, where he was bought out and then signed a minimum contract with the Lakers. Jordan was unable to contribute in Los Angeles, and was eventually waived before signing with Philadelphia.

Jordan doesn't have the athleticism that he used to, which hurts his ability as a lob threat on offense, and he was always a bit overrated as a rim protector. He can get blocks, and sometimes just having a big body out there can be helpful, but Jordan isn't someone that is consistently in position and someone that you can trust to anchor an elite defense.

Jordan struggled in Philadelphia, and was
unable to help keep the 76ers afloat when Joel Embiid missed some games due to injury. There's a chance that Jordan could be someone that fills some spot minutes as a third center during the regular season, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on him on a night-to-night basis.

Jordan will be 34 when he hits free agency in 2022, so I would expect that he only gets minimum offers for the rest of his career.

Cap Considerations
Jordan will be an unrestricted free agent with a $1.8 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the 76ers could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $3.4 million. This should be enough to retain Jordan, since he settled for the minimum of $2.6 million in 2021. Alternatively, the 76ers could use their Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception to re-sign Jordan if he demands more than $3.4 million.

Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Jordan as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Jordan only gets minimum offers, and may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Potential Teams: 76ers, Trailblazers, Hornets, Warriors, Suns

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $2.9 million (non-guaranteed) with the 76ers

Actual Contract: 1-year, $2.9 million ($1.8 million cap hit) with the Nuggets

Jordan signed what I can only imagine is a one-year minimum contract with Denver, although I haven't seen confirmed details yet.
