Summary
Despite never having great shooting numbers, Dinwiddie is a solid on-ball creator that can operate as a lead ball-handler or secondary creator next to a ball-handling wing or another point guard. He has good footwork to finish creatively at the rim, although his rim finishing numbers have generally been below-average throughout his career. He shot 40% on 3-pointers since with the Mavericks, and also hit 43% in the 2022 playoffs. However, his career percentage outside of Dallas since '16-'17 is only 32%, so he was likely benefitting from a small sample size and also getting better looks playing next to Luka Doncic. He shot decently from outside for the Lakers in '23-'24 but it was on pretty low volume, and he struggled from inside the arc.

On defense, Dinwiddie doesn't shine, but doesn't bleed points on that end either. He's an intelligent player and fit in well with the '21-'22 Mavericks team that played much better defense than expected given their personnel. He also has enough size to guard some wings if necessary. However, his stock has really fallen since then, as he struggled with the Nets and was eventually waived by Toronto, who had no interest in him after trading for him, and he didn't make a meaningful impact in Los Angeles.

In today's NBA you can play Dinwiddie at either guard position, especially if your point guard is big enough to guard opponent's shooting guards. Dinwiddie is not best served to operate as the primary creator anyway. He isn't a high volume pick-and-roll operator, and has thrived more in pistol action heavy offenses. He'll be 31 years old as a free agent in 2024, but should still have real interest from teams as a solid playmaking guard, despite there being some possible worries about regression in upcoming years.
 
Cap Considerations
Dinwiddie will be an unrestricted free agent with a $3.4 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the Lakers could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $3.4 million. If that isn't enough, the Lakers could use their Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, if available, to re-sign Dinwiddie if he demands more than $3.4 million.

Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Dinwiddie as even teams without cap space could use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or possibly even the Room MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him.
