2024 Free Agents - Jonathan Isaac

Summary
Isaac had a promising start to his career, looking like a potential All-Defense level player. At 6'10" with length and lateral quickness, he has the potential to guard multiple positions and really cause problems with his size. He has posted very good steal and block rates throughout his career.

Offensively, Isaac struggles to score efficiently, posting just a 55% true shooting. He has shown some off-the-dribble ability, but overall isn't someone that can consistently create offense for himself or others. His jumper has shown some promise but is still a weakness, as he has only hit 33% of his threes, and defenses generally are happy to leave him open.

After tearing his ACL in the Orlando Bubble in 2020, Isaac has struggled to stay healthy, missing the entire '20-'21 and '21-'22 seasons, and only playing in 11 games in '22-'23. However, he has started to get back to healthy form, playing in 58 games in '23-'24. His minutes have been somewhat limited, but in those minutes he has been a defensive monster.

Cap Considerations
Isaac's $17.4 million salary for 2024-2025 is non-guaranteed, and if he is waived he will become an unrestricted free agent and the Magic will have no form of Bird rights on him.

If Isaac becomes a free agent, only cap space teams will be able to sign him if he demands more than the full $12.9 million Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception. Isaac is unlikely to be waived though, as even if the Magic wanted to maximize their cap space, they could probably just guarantee Isaac's contract and trade him.

Potential Teams: Magic, Pistons, Trailblazers, Bulls, Hornets

Predicted Contract: Not waived: $17.4 million
If waived: 1-year, $20 million with the Pistons

Actual Contract: Not waived: $17.4 million, then renegotiated and extended for 5-years, $83 million (3rd year $8M guaranteed, last two years non-guaranteed)
Isaac was not waived, and the Magic used cap space to give him a bump up to $25 million in '25-'26, with a lower salary in the following years, which have some non-guarantees that can get guaranteed if Isaac plays in enough games
