2024 Free Agents - Kyle Lowry

Summary
After coming off the bench for essentially the Heat's entire 2023 playoff run, Lowry is probably entering another phase of his career - one where he is no longer a starting point guard, despite starting most of his games for Miami and Philadelphia in '23-'24.. The 8 points per game he averaged in '23-'24 were his lowest since the '08-'09 season. His shooting efficiency numbers did bounce back a bit in '23-'24 though after hitting lows in '22-'23.

It's clear he just doesn't have the same level of burst and shot-creation ability, and the numbers back that up. While his overall usage and production has been down in '23-'24, he has been decently efficient, with a 59% true shooting.

Lowry is a competitor. A bulldog that is going to battle every night, make the right plays, and hit some shots. While he has lost some lateral mobility, he still competes on that end and knows where to be on rotations. He's strong enough to guard bigger players, and is willing to put his body on the line to take charges.

Lowry will be 38 years old as a free agent in 2024, so it's unlikely he gets any long-term contracts. He could get a solid one or two-year contract if a team thinks he could make a significant impact on a short-term basis.

Cap Considerations
Lowry will be an unrestricted free agent with a $2.1 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the 76ers could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $4 million. This could be enough to retain Lowry, since he settled for the minimum to come to Philadelphia. Alternatively, the 76ers could use cap space or their their Mid-Level Exception or Bi-Annual Exception (if available) to re-sign Lowry if he demands more than $4 million.

Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Lowry as even teams without cap space could possibly use the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or possibly even the Taxpayer MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also possible that Lowry only gets minimum offers.

Potential Teams: 76ers, Spurs, Suns, Timberwolves, Clippers

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $3.3 million ($2.1 million cap hit) with the 76ers

Actual Contract: 1-year, $3.3 million ($2.1 million cap hit) with the 76ers

Lowry returned to the 76ers on a minimum contract, which was not surprising.
