2024 Free Agents - Taurean Prince

Summary
After some inconsistent play early in his career, Prince has developed into a good two-way wing. He has good size for a wing and some ability to switch and guard multiple positions. Despite having good length on defense, he doesn't quite play to his size, and is light enough to still get bullied by bigger wings. He also has times where he simply just isn't in the right position defensively or doesn't move his feet to stay in front.

On offense, Prince has shown some brief flashes of being able to create for himself and others, but he does not have the skill level to be much of a creator. As a 37% three-point shooter on decent volume, Prince is solid there but not special. He has shot a 39% over the last four seasons though.

Prince started a decent amount of games for the Lakers in '23-'24, although the Lakers were better once he moved to the bench. Prince has showed he can defend well enough and hit outside shots at a solid rate, but hasn't really proven to be a real difference-maker.

Cap Considerations
Prince will be an unrestricted free agent with a $5.4 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the Lakers could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $5.4 million. If that isn't enough, the Lakers could use their Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, if available, to re-sign Prince if he demands more than $5.4 million.

Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Prince as even teams without cap space could use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or possibly even the Room MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him.

Potential Teams: Lakers, Grizzlies, Heat, Bucks, Pelicans

Predicted Contract: 2-year, $11.1 million with the Lakers

Actual Contract: 1-year, $3 million ($2.1 million cap hit) with the Bucks

Prince settled for the minimum to go to Milwaukee, giving the Bucks a decent cheap option as a bench wing.
