2025 Free Agents - MarJon Beauchamp

Beauchamp was one of the more interesting stories in the 2022 Draft, as he was a relatively unknown prospect coming out of high school. He ended up at Yakima Valley Community College before joining the G-League Ignite for his age-21 season. He played well enough there to get drafted in the first round by the Bucks. Unfortunately, Beauchamp has been unable to make much of an impact, and the Bucks even declined the 4th year of his rookie contract. Offensively, Beauchamp is a good athlete, which allows him to be a transition threat. However, his 60% rim finishing is still below-average for a wing, because he doesn't have a lot of craft or touch on finishes that aren't dunks. His outside jumper and overall ball-skills were his biggest questions heading into the draft, and he hasn't really answered those He has hit a slightly below-average 35.5% from 3 thus far in his career, and generally isn't someone that defenses respect from outside. Beauchamp also has a poor turnover rate and doesn't really make plays for others. Defensivley, Beauchamp hasn't been able to live up to the hype that he had coming into the draft. While he has a good frame and the ability to defend multiple positions, he hasn't been anything special on that end. He hasn't been disruptive, posting low steal and block rates. Overall, Beauchamp hasn't been trusted by any of the three head coaches he has had thus far. He has essentially fallen completely out of the rotation thus far in '24-'25, and he may just need a new situation to get a fresh start. Beauchamp is still only 23 years old, so there's reason to believe he can improve. However, he hasn't shown much development thus far, and has clear weaknesses he needs to improve in order to become a rotation-level player.

Summary

Beauchamp had the fourth year of his rookie option declined, so he will be an unrestricted free agent with a $4.8 million cap hold and limited Bird Rights. The highest starting salary the Bucks can offer is the $4.8 million amount of the option year that was declined. That still should be enough to re-sign him, should they wish to do so. If another team has interest in signing Beauchamp, they could pry him away from Milwaukee by offering him more than the $4.8 million that the Bucks can offer, by using cap space, the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, Room MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. However, I don't think Beauchamp will get offers above the minimum, and he may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Cap Considerations
