2025 Free Agents - Amir Coffey
After showing some flashes during his first two seasons in the league, Coffey broke out a bit in '21-'22, playing 69 games for the Clippers and getting over 22 minutes per game. He hasn't always gotten consistent minutes but did play over 21 minutes per game in '23-'24. Coffey is a solid 38% shooter from three, and even has the ability to take some off-the-dribble. At 6'8" Coffey has good size for a wing and has fit in well with how the Clippers have generally wanted to play, which is having a lot of big, switchable wings. Coffey isn't someone you would want to put the ball in his hands to run your offense, but he does have enough off-the-dribble ability to be a secondary or tertiary creator. He can attack closeouts and get to the rim, which will be key if he continues to shoot the ball well. He shot a very good 75% at the rim in '23-'24, and good from mdirange as well. Coffey will be 28 years old when he hits free agency in 2025, so I wouldn't expect significant improvement going forward, but I also wouldn't expect regression either. I'm not sure what kind of demand he will get in free agency, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being one of my favorite minimum contract signings.
Summary
Coffey will be an unrestricted free agent with a $7.5 million cap hold and full Bird Rights, meaning the Clippers will have no restrictions on re-signing him. Since the Clippers will most likely be operating over the cap, and because his cap hold is likely greater than his expected starting salary, his cap hold is not really relevant. Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Coffey as even teams without cap space could use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or possibly even the Taxpayer MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also possible that he only gets minimum offers.
Cap Considerations
Alec Burks (1 year minimum, 2024) Malik Beasley (1 year, $6 million, 2024) Gary Harris (2-1 years, $15 million, 2024)
