2025 Free Agents - Pelle Larsson
Larsson had a successful college career, making 2nd Team All Pac-12 in '23-'24 and helping Arizona reach the Sweet 16. At 6'5" with solid athleticism, he has good physical traits for an NBA wing. He also shot over 42% from 3 during his final year in college. He likely won't be an on-ball creator at the NBA level. Defensively, Larsson could struggle in the NBA because most of his athleticism comes from an explosion perspective, not necessarily lateral quickness. He also isn't overly long, with a 6'7" wingspan. He gives good effot on the ball but can sometimes be late to rotations or not always in the right spot. Larsson will already be 25 years old as a potential free agent in 2025, so he'll be fairly old for someone just finishing his rookie season. As long as he shows any potential, even in the G-League, I would expect the Heat to keep him around another year.
Summary
Larsson's $2 million salary for 2025-2026 is non-guaranteed, and if he is waived he will become an unrestricted free agent and the Heat will have no form of Bird rights on him. If he is waived, teams could claim him off waivers, but would need to fit his salary within cap space or an exception to do so, as his contract doesn't fit within the minimum salary exception as it was a three-year contract. If Larsson becomes a free agent, other teams will have multiple ways to sign him as even teams without cap space could use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. If he is waived and clears waivers, it's likely he will only have minimum offers, and may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.
Cap Considerations
Josh Minott (3rd year minimum not waived, 2024) Brandon Boston, Jr. (1 year minimum, non-guaranteed, 2024) Johnny Juzang (4-3 years, $12 million, 2024)
