2025 Free Agents - Garrett Temple

Temple was traded to New Orleans prior to the '21-'22 as part of the Lonzo Ball trade, and got decent time for the Pelicans, playing in over 1,000 minutes of non-garbage time, according to Cleaning the Glass. However, he started to fall out of the rotation in the latter parts of the season, and was not in the playoff rotation. With the emergence of guys like Herb Jones and Trey Murphy, Temple barely played in '22-'23. He also barely played in '23-'24 for the Raptors. Temple is a slightly-below average shooter, and the 31% he shot from three in '21-'22 was his lowest since the '13-'14 season. He didn't shoot well from other areas of the court that season either, leading to a pretty rough 49% true shooting. Temple spends most of his time offensively just spotting up, so he simply needs to hit shots at a higher rate to stay on the court. He has enough off-the-dribble game to attack a hard closeout, and has enough passing ability to make the right play or keep the offense moving, but he shouldn't be asked to do much more than that. Temple has decent size for a wing, and has been a solid defender both on and off ball for most of his career. His steal and block rates were both well above average for his position in '21-'22.  Temple will already be 39 years old as a free agent in 2025. It's likely that he'll only be on minimum contracts going forward, and although he's known as being a good locker room guy, there's a chance that his NBA career could be in jeopardy.

Summary

Temple will be an unrestricted free agent with a $2.1 million cap hold and Early Bird Rights. Using his Early Bird Rights, the Raptors could offer him a starting salary of about $13.5 million, which should be more than enough to re-sign him. Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Temple as even teams without cap space could possibly use the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Temple only gets minimum offers, and he may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Cap Considerations

James Johnson (1 year minimum, partially-guaranteed, 2024) DeAndre Jordan (1 year minimum, 2024) Taj Gibson (1 year minimum, 2024)

Player/Contract Comparison

Potential Teams: Raptors, Nets, Wizards, Kings, Hawks

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $3.6 million (non-guaranteed) with the Raptors
