$30.7 million

$8.1 million Room Mid-Level Exception

Potential Free Agents

  • Bojan Bogdanovic ($19 million salary only $2 million guaranteed)

  • Alec Burks ($19.9 million cap hold, Full Bird Rights, Unrestricted)

  • OG Anunoby ($19.9 million player option, Full Bird Rights, Unrestricted)

  • Isaiah Hartenstein ($12.5 million cap hold, Early Bird Rights, Unrestricted)

  • Precious Achiuwa ($13.3 million cap hold, Full Bird Rights, Restricted)

  • Jericho Sims ($2.1 million team option, Full Bird Rights, Restricted)

  • Shake Milton ($2.1 million cap hold, Non-Bird Rights, Unrestricted)

Summary
The only way the Knicks would have real cap room is if they lose all of their key potential free agents. Therefore, the Knicks will almost certainly be operating over the cap.

If Sims' team option is picked up and Bogdanovic is retained, the Knicks will be about $39 million below the luxury tax and $46 million below the first apron with ten players under contract.

They could use that space below the first apron to re-sign some combination of Anunoby, Burks, Hartenstein, and Achiuwa and add talent using the full $12.9 million MLE and/or $4.7 million BAE.

Re-signing Anunoby and Hartenstein would probably push them above the first apron, in which case they would only have the $5.2 million Taxpayer MLE to add talent.
